2024 Development Centre Information
DEVELOPMENT CENTRE ASSESSMENT
The Development Centre is the first step on England Hockey’s Player Pathway and aims to progress the core skills of young talented players, in order for them to hopefully attend the County Teams Training (former Junior Academy) and beyond in the future. The centre mainly focuses on developing the core skills and progression into game play. Please note – as a part of the Player Pathway, for players to reach County Teams Training they must have attended a Development Centre. For more information on the England Hockey Player Pathway please visit the England Hockey website – www.englandhockey.co.uk
We are holding Cornwall Development Centre (DC) training sessions for any young players who you feel are ready to enter the Cornwall Player Pathway. The selection process will be based on fitness, core skills and some basic tactics. We will be looking for players who have sound basic skills, but primarily those players who have drive and enthusiasm and who aspire to reach their full potential.
This year the CHA Schools & Youth committee have organised DC’s at Bude, Truro and Pool astro-pitches for U12 and U14 boys and girls (Year 6 to Year 9). Ideally, players should attend their nearest centre according to the year they were born in. ALL GOALKEEPERS need to attend Truro.

The cost for these sessions is £55 per player. Parents will pay when registering on the player platform. If players are deemed to be lacking hockey experience in the first session will be encouraged to join a local club and will be reimbursed the fee. Please contact your child's school or hockey club to be nominated in the first instance. If your school / club wish to enter players into the assessments they need to complete the nomination form and return to me via email by Friday 3 May 2024
PLEASE NOTE – Players born in 2013 will not be able to progress to AC following the completion of the DC due to the EH ruling on age. Their attendance at DC is for them to develop as a player.
Note: Players who attended last season’s County teams (Academy) will be invited back for county assessments in September. However, players who are still eligible to attend the DC's and were attending County training can still attend this year's DCs if they so wish. Contact me directly in this case.
If you require any further information please do not hesitate to contact me.
Yours sincerely
