Cornwall Hockey is for everyone!
For a number of years Cornwall have enabled a process by which clubs could run non-league hockey for those players either returning from years ago or for our younger players who are developing their skills. When it was originally set up it was known as 'The Badgers League'.
Following discussions with our members the CHA updated the name to reflect what the offer was trying to achieve and in 2019 it was changed to 'The Development League' as it was felt that this brought a greater understanding and importance on the role of the league.
It has always been understood that it was a friendly event that enabled those players not eligible for league hockey to participate or for developing the skills of individuals within clubs. This gives players an opportunity to stretch themselves in a slightly more competitive format. Generally matches are played on a Sunday which also ensures that clubs can continue to field an appropriate level of players. Should teams need to include league playing players then they should play the fixture in the manner that they are held - friendly and supportive to young and new players to the game of hockey!
Over the past few years we have found that teams are cancelling fixtures at the last minute leaving clubs in arrears on pitch bookings. This is difficult for everyone concerned but we hope that the new rules helps to support everyone.
